MAYOR GARY WILL SAYS; Goodbye To City Position

After 5 terms of service to the City of Ripon, Mayor Will – will not seek re-election.

Recently his duties have been full of excitement with many firsts throughout his 10 years as Mayor.  This year he used the power of veto for the first time and even swung his gavel for the very first time bringing order to a disorderly council moment.  Clearly all this excitement has caused Mayor Gary Will to reflect on his own personal excitement surrounding his family and daily life. We respect and accept that.

We thank Mayor Gary Will for his years of service and dedication to the community, and wish him all the best in future endeavors.

The decision comes early enough for anyone targeting the chair in April to begin preparing a campaign strategy now.  We are certain the community will hear a lot about candidates in upcoming days and we will keep you posted as the story continues.

A mayor and eight council members serve the community. The mayor is elected to a two-year term and council members to a four-year term. Two council members represent each of the four districts.  Terms also expiring in 2020 for the following districts.

  • District 1 – John Splitt
  • District 2 – Rolland Peabody
  • District 3 – Aaron Becker
  • District 4 – Doug Iverson

No word as to who will seek re-election to council however one thing is for certain, it will not be Mayor Gary Will.  We have heard that Alderman Doug Iverson may seek the Mayors chair… we will have to just wait and see.
