Is it the beginning of the end for movie theaters? Tomorrow, Netflix opens Martin Scorsese’s epic “The Irishman” — highly touted for the Academy Awards — in just a handful of theaters across the nation.
Ripon Campus Cinema is not one of them. In fact if you want to see this film in a theater, there is only one place in all of Wisconsin that you can do so … Madison and only for a limited time.
Flex Brewhouse – located in Madison at 89 EAST TOWNE MALL. And you will only be able to screen it Friday, November 22nd – Tuesday, November 26th. 4 Days.
Since Ben Marcus opened his first theater in Ripon, the film industry has been through several changes. This latest one however begs the question. Are theaters on the way out?
Through online streaming services like Hulu and Netflix it seems the most likely screen you will be watching all the Hollywood hits on is in the palm of your hand or the living room.
Let’s just trust that that will take some time before, like bookstores, theaters begin closing the doors.
Going to the silver screen used to be an experience. Depending on the film, it still is! Go see a movie. Go support your theater. It is a good reason to get off your butt and get out of your house. You can do it by yourself or with friends. Just do it! The filmmakers of today are getting a message from us, that we no longer choose to do this. Is that true?

If the marketing department has decided not to ‘spread the word’ about this flic, and hide it, rather than collect admission for it, I expect we’ll hear this film is available on DVD very soon. Too bad the investors didn’t know about that idea before the deal was made.
The movie is streaming on Netflix and it is a brilliant film. Highly recommend it…but be prepared…it is a long one.
