  1. Well… yes, I’m a plumber, and of course I’d be looking at this. Great story. When I first saw the image, I believed it looked like a toilet used in Japan, but the article and image have a smooth area shaped for sitting.
    The best part is a septic tank below it. If the tank were cared for properly, there would be little or no odder, and as the dwelling had gardens, I expect the tank was carefully maintained. A tank of 9K-gallon (about 9’x6′) will support a family of four up to two decades with 900-sf of drain field. Too bad they didn’t mention a field at that depth, but there may have been, and that would make the find most notable. They also mention such information they may glean from material found in there, meaning that drain fields may be located at a later date. What I remember about those people was their uncanny ability in the science of hydraulics, dams, and lifting water… I imagine there is duct work for a field and it will be found.
